Flee needs seamless experience to take off

This series follows this year’s cohort of JOLT, an early-stage accelerator program at MaRS Discovery District dedicated to building high-growth web and mobile startups that promise to transform the way consumers and businesses interact with technology. This week, Flee gains insight into accelerating product development for the travel market.

For seasoned globetrotters Zeina Belouizdad and Byron Hawes, the idea of turning their wealth of world travelling experience into an online travel recommendation app made sense.

Called, the app combines a booking process with curated original content for people looking for North American travel adventures beyond the typical Vegas or New York junkets.

Given Ms. Belouizdad’s extensive background in hospitality and Mr. Hawes’ in travel writing, the marketing and target audience side of things was the least of their challenges. “We already have contacts in the media who are chasing us about our launch. What we’re working on now is the technical side and building the online experience,” Ms. Belouizdad said.

The idea came about a year ago when the two were discussing what a weekend getaway on a limited budget that wasn’t the same old, same old would be. “We realized then it would be a good idea to put together a website oriented around flight budgets to make unique recommendations.”
